My company has been scuffling for almost 2 years. I thought the Covid economy would takes us down with it.
Then a strange thing happened. Suddenly the mobile carriers, and call centers, and ISP's and Banks and Insurance companies all woke in March and said Shit we need tools to find and prevent problems in our networks and the money has been flowing. I would never have guessed what it would take. Just like I would have never guessed that grocery store clerks would be on the Frontline of this unthinkable war
I'm a criminal I do this everyday I take the low road I roam the highways
Lots of uncertainty right now. Our orders have pretty much halted. We have 4 main areas of our site, 2 of them may continue to operate, but I'm expecting the other 2 to see significant downtime.
Layoffs or furloughs will be coming for our site, and almost a certainty.
I'm not at the level of management that gets consulted for planning for these decisions and that's all my opinion. And I hope I'm wrong.
That sucks man, do you think you're safe if this does happen?
If there are areas and departments that keep operating, they'll need support...that will be good for me/us. I don't directly do end user or shop floor support anymore, but I have and I can if I need too. Conversely, my coworker who does most of the end user support doesn't have the skillset to do what I do.
I'm ass deep in two big projects with a pile of corporate money and visibility wrapped up in both of them. Neither of those are contingent on our manufacturing processes (2 new VMware environments and a pile of new Cisco infra). I'd make a strong pitch to keep going on those even if they temporarily idle some of our machines and processes.
My kid just got off the Ford and is back in Mississippi. Think the Ford might be safer. No word of any infections aboard it thus far.
Thats good. Hopefully he stays safe. How is son2 and your pops?
Dad is doing pretty well. He will be 96 Sunday. 2 is not doing so well on his new medication. But the side effects are expected. He will just have to tough it out for a couple of weeks. Of course, than means we do too.
