I mean if a player is making league minimum or has a baby on the way then fuck it, do you. But the players that are opting out of the season giving up millions of dollars because of COVID... Just plain stupidity. Do people plan on just avoiding the world until there is a vaccine available? Hiring people to grab groceries for you every time you need toilet paper or apples?
I get the family first mentality. But shit if I have millions sitting there, sign me up for FaceTime with the fam and just showing up to my job. NFL careers are way too short.
Might sound incredulous to you, but it's not nonsensical. Yes, the vaccine will/should be available by next season. You're giving your body a year off from wear and tear. That can actually add a couple years to your career, as age is far less the factor than actual mileage. Take a guy entering the 3rd year of a 4 or 5 year contract. Already made 3 to 10 mil a year. What more does he need if he's not stupid, and has a decent financial advisor? It's a year off, not walking away from football. Really don't think these players will suffer much financially. Considering the risk to their families, I applaud them. It's not always just about the money.
