Some of the best movies and tv series got they starts on papers. Especially the ones you've read first. List some of your favs. List some of your flops.
I read the first Jurassic Park way before the movie. I don't think I had heard of Michael Creighton previously before that. But since I as a big fan of dinos I was ALL in. It was a big deal for me to read this book, because around the time I read it, I was in college. I mostly read graphic novels back then, so it was something to dedicate that much time to put in while I was mackin all the honeys. Obviously it was a great book that lead to the way of a great movie franchise.
On the flip of that is Under The Dome. I read that book and was blown away. Creating a half-baked post-apoc dystopian world inside of a bubble... I'm in! I read it and loved it. Then when I discovered the series was on its way I was floored. When I saw the first few episodes I knew I was going to be disappointed. Those who read the book knew how graphicly violent it was. In no way should ABC have taken this book. It should have been HBO. They also sugared down the chief's son who was an arrogant, azz-hole. The made him almost a sympathetic character in the series. I so wanted this to be closer to the books.
Empire Falls by Richard Russo is one of my favorite novels ever, and so the HBO miniseries they made based on it couldn't live up to it. It wasn't able to capture the same level of industrial decay and desperation that the novel did.

On of my favorite movies is The Mist. I didn't know it was a short-story till later. The book was just as good, just not as epic of an ending. Anyone familiar with the movie remembers the epic ending when Thomas Jane's character killing his son, just to find out seconds later that the mist was clearing up and if he had just waited a minute, their peril would have been over. In the book they zoom outward from Jane's immediate area and we discover the mist goes on and on forever.
After reading the first two Jurassic Park's I was on a Michael Creighton binge. I ran right into Congo was a freakishly scary book. Anyone who's seen the movie... I don't need to say anymore.

There are a few of you who know I'm a HUGE Blake Crouch fan. That being said, Wayward Pines was a great tv show. Sadly it was canceled before its 3rd season. Having read the books, I knew the series was in trouble because they merged all three books into season 1. So when they aired season 2, they were pretty much just winging it without a blueprint.
