Horrific. Why can't people see that poverty and crime are related and mental illness and things like this as well? We talk about infrastructure but our people are in even worse shape than the bridges and roads.

everyone seems to be periodically talk about it (on both sides) stating that mental health is the reason for many issues... yet nothing of significance seems to get done.

The mental healthcare that poor people receive is piss poor. The mental health experts at the bottom of the barrel are shit at what they do. People who would be good at mental health seek higher paying jobs rather than going through college just to slave away and be in continuous college debt. We shit on people for getting into careers that don't pay much (sometimes... like mental health, although it can also be lucrative, but that's for the best of the best at what they do) and get into student debt.

That shows one downfall to letting the markets dictate what is best for society... it will not push money into things like mental health.
