Pretty wild acquisition with Microsoft going from "we might have to rethink our relationship with them" to just buying them. Not sure how much will actually change. Hopefully the writing is on the wall for Kotick. Wonder if COD is going to start giving early access type stuff to Xbox.

Safe to assume they'll clean those people out. Maybe even the owner as well since they can get him on "for cause" and pay him less to leave.

MS said fuck it, if we can’t make our own games, we’ll just buy all the games.
I think the angle here is to make acquired IPs available on game pass and then make game pass available on all hardware. So in order to play these games on non-Xbox hardware, you’ll have to have a game pass sub.
It seems like subscription services are going to continue to be pushed to consumers and the gaming industry is no different. Game pass is Xbox’s number one priority.
I don’t think this idea is all that far fetched. With the cloud infrastructure Xbox/MS has in place, I think this would be pretty easy for them to pull off.
Ultimately, with both Xbox and PlayStation games coming to PC, I think that platform (PC) continues to make the most sense in terms of software availability.

Early reports are that shithead Activision CEO Bobby Kotick will remain in that role and report to Phil Spencer. I feel like they'll find a way to get him out at some point.

I mean they have the perfect opportunity to do it now before the deal gets struck. I don't know why they'd wait to send him out the door with more cash.

If people can manage to get their hands on decent hardware, thanks to those crypto/NFT fuckheads.

From what I read, Kotick’s contract ends in 2023 or something like that so they’ll probably force him to retire (they should).

Yeah, all hardware (console and PC) is such a pain in the ass to get right now. I got super lucky with my PS5.
PS is already working on a gamepass equivalent but they actually need to make money from their video game department so they can't offer the incredible deals like microsoft can. It is why they are releasing shit on PC, they need that double dip for short term gains. Microsoft has zero shits to give about the short term.
Microsoft can just funnel in money from their other shit to video games and take a monetary loss in the short term in order to build up gamepass as the Netflix of gaming. Sony aint going to be releasing Horizon Zero Fun 2 day 1 on PS Now, meanwhile Elder Scrolls 6 will be a day 1 on gamepass. They are making the deal too good to ignore and it is kind of genius. People don't realize how much more microsoft is worth, its in the trillions. They just spent half of Sony's entire value in CASH to acquire activision blizzard. It is the largest such transaction in the 2020s and by far the largest gaming transaction ever. Sony cannot compete with this on multiple levels.
Sony very soon is going to buy someone like Sega or Square, they are ripe for the picking as well as some other smaller studios under 10 billion they are going to nab one of them.
The only way COD is going to be on Sony platforms is if it was involved in the deal in order to assuage monopolization laws. They said Elder Scrolls would be multiplatform when they bought it too, now it aint. You dont spent 70 billion to not flex on your rival.
Once you control the market with gamepass you will have everyone lining up to pay you to be included in there. And they can slowly raise price just as Netflix is doing. This is exactly what Disney should be doing to Netflix but they want those box office sales, they can afford the short term losses to put pressure on Netflix but they are stupid thankfully

Phil Spencer’s goal has always quantity of subscribers, 20 mil subscribers at $10 (is gamepass ultimate $10?) is 2.4 billion a year
His end goal is to force Sonys hand to allow gamepass on their system.
Then everyone can be friends
Console exclusivity is soooo stupid- that’s like dell and hp having their own games
Also cant wait for the Xbox - Nintendo partnership ;-)

damn i hate being right all the time
That was already known though… we just didn’t know who the company was.
