Lets gooooooooooo!!
"Too often, we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought." - JFK
"First Thoughts are the everyday thoughts. Everyone has those. Second Thoughts are the thoughts you think about the way you think. People who enjoy thinking have those. Third Thoughts are thoughts that watch the world and think all by themselves. They’re rare, and often troublesome."
rickard stark was named but that must be an ancestor to the one the Mad King killed in the throne room. Dragons were long dead by that time.
Yea this a different Rickard. You know the princess Rhaenyra that is the focal point, she was actually mentioned by Joffrey when showing Margery around the Red Keep to where he said she was killed by her brother when he made her son watch as his dragon ate her.

Also, it wasn't because it went past 3 seasons that it went to shit.
The original show deviated from the source material too many times and Weiss and Benioff pretty much phoned it in from season 6 onwards just to collect the paycheck.
The difference here is that there isn't much source material to begin with so they have a lot more creative freedom. There is some lore thanks to Fire and Blood, but there is the window open to deviate from the lore in order to keep people interested. Weiss and Benioff are also not a part of this show, so that is also automatically a plus.

oh so now you agree with me that the show went to shit lol
a lot of people wanted to like it so bad, it just wasnt good and noone wanted to listen to my arguments sad face
I actually have no problem with them deviating from the books especially since there was no source material left. They should have gone in a direction that made sense for their versions of the characters instead of shoe horning the little nuggets of knowledge George told them and forcing everything to that destination
Preston Jacobs on YT has been doing a deep dive into this stuff, not sure if i should read the source material first or just go with the flow of the show. Im sure spoilers will be a problem, had a lot of big shit spoiled for me in s3 and s4
Slap my ass, and call me The Dragonknight! I'm going to enjoy the fuck out of this series, and the whiny, spoiled brats on social media can't stop me!
TV was shit in the 70's, and almost all TV shows were shit in 80's. There are way more entertaining series now than I have time to watch. I'm going to retreat to TV land until civilization collapses and we can't stream content anymore.
If you want more context on things from the source material, dont think i really spoil anything beyond the end point of this episode. Pretty good episode overall, strong start with a baffling change at the end.
There are a couple changes already from the books but the books are written by maesters with their own agenda reciting and deciphering the accounts of 2nd and third parties with their own agendas. It's an interesting read to find out who is on each side and what is being glossed over in the writings to present more favorable or more demonizing views of events. Rhaenys vs Viserys was not how it was mentioned in the book but the maester recording the happenings of that time had already belittled Rhaenys and definitely wanted Viserys to be chosen as heir. He said it was basically a two man race between Laenor, Rhaenys 7 yr old son, and Viserys the grandson of Jahaerys. He discounts Rhaenys purely due to her sex when that has never been established before and passes it off as a well known rule or custom of succession. But if that were the case why would Laenor have a claim through her? It's one of many inconsistencies in the text to get you questioning what is really happening. If anyone is confused the old king at the council is Jahaerys, both his sons died. Rhaenys is the daughter of the first son and Viserys is the son of the 2nd son.
The vote was most likely rigged as Rhaenys had by far the better claim, is a dragon rider, and have children that are already bonding to dragons and will likely become riders themselves. Viserys had ridden Balerion the black dread one time and then Balerion died. There has never been a case of a dragon rider taking a 2nd mount, although a dragon can take a 2nd rider.
The vote was said to be 20-1 but the top 3 vote getters were Rhaenys, Laenor, and Viserys. Rhaenys and Laenor likely split the vote and then the maesters doctored the results further because a 20 to 1 split is outrageous.
Another change is that after Rhaenys is passed over at the council her husband Corlys Velaryion (black guy with silver dreads) quit his position as Master of ships for being passed over while having the better claim. In the show he is still on the council which is curious. Rhaenys should also have black hair as she is of baratheon descent. That's kind of an important detail based on the Got. Pretty sure alicent Hightower and Rhaenerya are not friends either but I don't recall. Again they have more freedom to do what they want because the text is like two layers deep of unreliable narrators.
Pretty sure both Christian Cole and Daemon Targaryen both want Rhaeneryas favor but I like what they did with it. Clearly setting up the Hightowers vs Targs in many different scenes.
The Hightowers and masters of old Town might as well be one and the same, the king has many working against his best interests already and sowing discord with his brother Daemon. It goes down similarly in the book but it is implied with no proof by Otto Hightower (the hand) that Daemon was celebrating and denigrating the passing of his brothers son. It was nothing but conjecture through two layers of two different accounts allied with the Hightowers that he said anything of the sort. I wish they kept that a mystery but he kind of just admits he said it.
The dragon dreams are new for both Viserys and what he says of Aegon the Conquerors true motivations which I'm not sure I like. Changes a hell of a lot just to try to connect the show to GoT and the White Walkers.
The more interesting question though would be who is sending the dreams? Who is the three eyed crow at this point?
