Shot a 43. Happy about that. Par is 36 on the back nine, so I shot bogey golf. Some good shots, some that were rough. Two holes I shouldn't have been over par...hitting 3 from 60 yards out on a par 5 and I ended up with bogey. And another one I was hitting 2 from 90 out on a par 4, ended up with bogey.
Most important, I beat the guy I was playing against.
Hell. I bought new clubs at the end of 2019. Played with them o ce. Then the pandemic hit and other life events happened. So last Thursday we had a company event at a Top Golf here and I finally got to swing the clubs for the first time in 3 1/2 years. Let's just say I was a little rusty.
snerb Where are we going, and why am I in a hand basket?

I bought a 'new to me' set of irons last year... Mizuno's. I love them, but I need to keep reminding myself to club down. Where I used to hit a 7 I need to hit and 8, where I used to hit a 9 I need to hit PW....that bit me on the ass twice last night.
Prior to last night, the two visits to Top Golf was the only time I hit balls....and I was in Charlotte so I didn't even have my own clubs.
They're building a Top Golf just north of Madison....I think that'll be the closest one to me.

I'm playing in a league on Wednesdays. Had a terrible round last week. There is a golf course with a driving range within 5 miles of my house. I've hit balls twice since my crappy round. I figured something out last time that yielded a remarkable improvement. Hope it translates to the course.
Need to make sure my hands are leading my irons. It's called a "flat wrist". It's easier to achieve if you put a slight angle on the iron where the hands are closer to the left leg and the head of the club is closer to the right foot. Then, make sure to feel the drag of the club. I'm going to hit balls one more time today and see if I've incorporated the good habit.
I've wondered about Mizuno irons. Need to hit some. My clubs are about 7 years old. I might be ready for a change, just for the sake of change.

My new irons have a great soft feel compared to my old ones (10+ years old).
I hit the driving range well before my round yesterday to work on my driver. Found something that worked, distance was there and a lot less erratic off the tee box....even a couple very straight drives. If I can keep getting out of the tee box clean I should have a good year.

We also have a great pro shop right down the street and they'll let you hit any new and used clubs you want.

I live literally 4 minutes from the Top Golf. 5 minutes if I catch the red light

Nice. Are they expensive? I've been there twice but always on the company dime, never had to pay for golf, drinks or food.

By me it's $40/hr per person, so yeah it's expensive. Glad my time there was on company dime too. Oh, and the company had Top Golf cater food. The chicken fajitas were awesome. (Booze on the company dime too!)

My middle guy (15) just bought himself a set of Mizuno jpx 923 hot metal and he gained 10-15 yards with every club. I hate golfing with him now because he thinks he’s doing something special when he’s hitting an 8 to my 7. Those things are either juiced or they just de-lofted(is that a word?) them.
I just wish he wasn’t a lefty so I could steal them
I get fitted for a set next week, but not sure what I’m going to go with. It’s between the Mizuno, Ping 430 or Callaway Apex.
My Callaway X-22s are 15 years old, but I might just end up getting them re-shafted and gripped and see if that makes a difference.

I had my old irons regripped, it made a difference in straightness but my distance stayed the same.
I'm waiting for my distance and swing speed to take a shit on me... At 50 I'm still out driving my 19 year old nephews... I think when it happens it'll happen quick. One round he'll be like 'holy shit', the next round it'll be 'who invited grandpa'.

I don't think it works that way. You'll still outdirve your nephew if you outdrive him today.

My kid is so much better than me after a year.
In my defense, he’s been out more the past year than I have in my entire life.
The kid literally lives at the course and when he’s home he’s using the Rapsodo hitting into the net.
My 5th trip to the range in 10 days. I’ve been working on better ball contact and the things i learned with lessons are falling into place.
After hitting at the range I’ve been working in sand shots . JM I’ve completely lost confidence in my sand shots. Watched a video by Seve Ballesteros. I was doing about half the key things he recommended. Hit 50 balls out of the trap, including shots on the upslope of the trap. Noted that I escaped cleanly 45 times. 2 days ago that number was only 10.
Going to stick to the every other day routine. Will be playing in northern NH on Monday. We’ll see if I can replicate success
What a terrible round of golf last night. Double bogeys were the theme of the night...
Double Par Bogey Double Double Bogey Double Bogey Double
Couldn't get out of the tee box clean when I needed driver. When I would give my chance with a clean second shot, I'd miss the green and leave my chip on way to short. Terrible.
