Doesn't fucking matter. He is required by law to disclose any kind of property sale over $1K. Doesn't fucking matter if it is a loss or what. Tax laws have absolutely nothing to do with it.

This is a completely separate reporting protocol that they are legally required to go through as members of SCOTUS. Stop trying to make this about taxes. It is not about taxes. Not at all. It doesn't matter who does his taxes. Just because this news came out right around tax time doesn't mean this is about taxes.

No he isn’t. He sold at a loss, he’s not required to report any real estate losses or any real estate deals unless they earn a profit

This isn’t about taxes, this is about government financial disclosures…in an OGE form.

I have a top secret clearance, so I have to report every stock I own and all of my income…but if I sell a property at a loss, like I just did in 2020, I do not have to report that on my OGE. I reported it in my taxes because it’s a tax break though.

He didn’t have to disclose the loss.

He was called out on it and is submitting an amendment.

That amendment will cost the government because they will have to pay Thomas

Thomas had taken legal custody of Martin when he was 6 years old and had recently told an interviewer he was “raising him as a son.”

Tuition at the boarding school ran more than $6,000 a month. But Thomas did not cover the bill. A bank statement for the school from July 2009, buried in unrelated court filings, shows the source of Martin’s tuition payment for that month: the company of billionaire real estate magnate Harlan Crow.

I want to share a true, personal story to give you a bit of perspective. 

I led a team that produced a special purpose "appliance".  We built the software and some customer hardware.  We integrated off the shelf components like storage arrays, processing blades, networking etc.  When we delivered the "appliance" into a customer lab, all they had to do was plug it in, configure a few parameters and it was off and running. 

Sales vendors were always in our building meeting with manufacturing, engineering, finance, etc. 

I was called to an unscheduled meeting with the CEO and leaders of other functions. We were there to decide whether a guy named Ken from procurement should be fired. 
Ken had accepted a large, plasma TV from a vendor.  Someone asked what Ken provided in return.   The CEO said, it doesn't matter what, if anything, Ken did for the vendor. 

The mere perception of impropriety was cause for termination.  Ken had a duty to keep protect the best interest of the company.  Ken's actions were in conflict with his overarching responsibility. 

We were there to learn a lesson, not to decide. 

Ken was terminated. 

This was happening in many businesses including the government. 

The U.S. government now has a standard policy for receving gifts.  Many compainies have copied it or drafted their own. 

Clarence Thomas would be immediately terminated if standard U.S. government policy applied to him.
