Simple Tofu Katsu Recipe

1 block of firm tofu 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko breadcrumbs work well) 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 2 flax eggs (2 tablespoons ground flaxseed mixed with 6 tablespoons water) or regular eggs if not vegan Salt and pepper to taste Vegetable oil for frying


Press the tofu: Place the tofu block on a plate lined with paper towels. 


Slice the tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into thick slices, around 1/2 to 1 inch in thickness.


In one bowl, place the flour. In another bowl, make the flax eggs (or beat the regular eggs).


Dip each tofu slice into the flour, making sure it's well coated. Then dip it into the flax egg (or regular egg).


Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the breaded tofu slices until golden brown on each side. This should take about 


In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup (or agave), grated ginger, and minced garlic.


Once the tofu is golden brown and crispy, remove it from the pan and place it on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
