After spending his entire six-year career with the Washington football team, cornerback Danny Johnson has been informed that he will be waived.
The decision to release Johnson comes nine months after the team re-signed him to a two-year, $5 million deal.
Washington plans to fill Johnson's roster spot with another cornerback, Kyu Blu Kelly, whom they claimed off waivers from the Green Bay Packers.
A fifth-round pick by the Ravens this year, Kelly has already been on four teams, including the Ravens, Seahawks, and Packers.
Since Johnson's re-signing, Washington has undergone significant changes, including the firing of defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio and defensive backs coach.
Johnson has been with Washington since 2018 when they initially picked him up as an undrafted free agent.
The 28-year-old Johnson has started eight games in his career, with four of them occurring in the previous season.
Kyu Blu Kelly, at 22 years old, is six years younger than Johnson and is still under his rookie contract. This will be his fourth team claim this season.
